Psalm 107:28-29 speaks of a similar scenario. People were distressed because of a storm at sea and cried out, “Lord, help!” The Lord calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. This passage also goes on to say in Psalm 107:30, what a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor. Here it is: Jesus first spoke to the disciples before He spoke to the storm. Now, we know God stands outside of time and is engaged with us in time at the same time, but I think this particular series, the order of the way things went down, is pretty interesting.

When Jesus speaks to calm the storm, Mark indicates that He addresses more than a meteorological force but a being behind it. When He commands the sea, "Peace, be still!" the Greek phrase means "be muzzled or gagged," as though the storm were a maniac that had to be bound and restrained.
Answer: The story of Jesus calming the storm is told in the three Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Jesus had been teaching near the Sea of Galilee. Afterwards, He wanted a respite from the crowds so decided to take a boat with the apostles to the opposite shore where there were no large towns (Mark 4:35–36). The Bible reports not long after they sailed, Jesus fell asleep and a storm arose (Luke 8:23).
